How Hoteliers Can Make the Most of Instagram’s Latest Features

Instagram is one of the fastest growing platforms for travellers worldwide. From beautiful destination inspiration through to solo travel advice, this is a platform everyone in the luxury travel industry should be taking advantage of.

But did you know that the more of Instagram’s features you use, the more you’re prioritised in your followers’ feeds? The time to invest in an Instagram strategy is now.

So, we thought we’d give you a helping hand. Here is a breakdown of how to make the most of Instagram’s features as demonstrated by some of our favourite accounts.


Instagram: Beautiful Destinations

Images are the bread and butter of your Instagram page. Posts form any guest’s first impression of your hotel, which is why captivating travel images and events inspiration are always a fantastic go-to.

Top tip: For a consistent appearance and unified look to your posts, try using the same filter on all or most of your images.



Instagram: Alexander Hotels

The power of a catchy caption cannot be underestimated. We recommend keeping it short and sweet with plenty of emotional fuel. If it suits the brand of your hotel, why not try out emojis? We recommend up to two per post.

Top tip: Before you post, spend about ten minutes researching hashtags relating to your image. Vary it up between posts to increase your reach.



Instagram: The Hoxton

Available for only 24 hours and accessible through the icon on your profile (and at the top of their homepage once they follow you), these posts do a lot to draw in new guests. Stories are also a fantastic place to promote upcoming events and offers without paying for advertising.

Top tip: Keep your styling consistent. With so many fonts, colours, and filters to choose from, select the features that best match your brand.



Instagram: Tye River Cabin Co.

Instagram’s newest feature and only available on mobile, Highlights allow you to permanently, publicly save and categorise posts from your stories. They are often the first interaction a guest will have with your account, so keep them well organised. We recommend creating a highlight section for each offering of your hotel.

Top tip: Begin each Highlights section with a consistent background containing just the title of the section e.g Weddings, Meetings, or Behind the Scenes
